Atletico Madrid Rules Out Julian Alvarez Exit Amid Barcelona Interest
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has put an end to rumours linking Argentina forward Julian Alvarez with a move to Barcelona, stating unequivocally that the player will remain at the club.
Barcelona have reportedly earmarked Alvarez as the long‑term successor to veteran striker Robert Lewandowski, but Atletico have shown no willingness to entertain any offer for one of their prized assets.
Spanish media outlets claimed that Atletico rejected a bid exceeding €150 million, underscoring the club’s determination to keep the 25‑year‑old forward.
Cerezo also addressed recent comments made by Barcelona president Joan Laporta, making it clear that Alvarez’s future lies in the Spanish capital.
“Joan Laporta is a good friend, and he already knows where Julián Álvarez is going to play next season,” he said.

The statement is expected to quieten speculation surrounding the forward’s future, with Barcelona believed to be exploring alternatives to bolster their attack once Lewandowski eventually departs.
Alvarez has grown into one of the world’s most complete forwards. His sharp finishing, relentless pressing and versatility across the front line have made him a key figure for both club and country.
The Argentine also played a prominent role in his nation’s push to the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, earning widespread praise for his tireless work rate, important goals and intelligent movement that created chances for teammates.
Beyond his attacking qualities, Alvarez is noted for his defensive contribution, frequently tracking back to help his side before rejoining the attack. His willingness to drift wide and press opponents has made him one of Argentina’s most influential performers.
