FIFA Appoints Slovenian Referee for 2026 World Cup Final
FIFA has named Slovenian official Slavko Vinčić as the referee for the 2026 World Cup final, which will see Spain face Argentina.
Vinčić will be assisted by fellow Slovenians Tomaž Klančnik and Andraž Kovačič as the first and second assistant referees.
Jordan’s Adham Makhadmeh has been appointed the fourth official, while Mohammad Alkalaf will serve as the reserve assistant referee.
The showpiece is scheduled for the New York New Jersey Stadium, which holds 80,663 spectators, with kick‑off set for 3:00 p.m. local time (8:00 p.m. Nigerian time).
Spain reached the final after defeating France in the semi‑finals, while defending champions Argentina progressed through victories over Egypt, Switzerland and England.
Lionel Messi will lead Argentina’s attempt to retain the trophy they won in Qatar 2022, whereas Spain aims to claim a second world title after their first triumph in South Africa 2010.
