Iyabo Obasanjo Quits APC Over Broken Promises
Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, announced her resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that the party’s consensus candidate in Ogun State failed to honour the promises made to her and her supporters.
She explained that her decision to leave the APC was driven by disappointment over the candidate’s unmet commitments, which she said undermined trust among her followers.
Defection to PDP and Senatorial Nomination
Shortly after her exit, Iyabo Obasanjo was welcomed into the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during a large rally at the party secretariat in Abeokuta, where she received the senatorial ticket for Ogun Central ahead of the 2027 general election.
Rally in Abeokuta Welcomes Her Back
The procession through Abeokuta’s major streets featured Senator Olusegun Obasanjo, PDP governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu, her supporters, and party members from Ogun Central and other parts of the state.
PDP State Chairman Abayomi Tella presented the party flag to Senator Obasanjo, welcomed her back to the PDP, and formally declared her as the party’s candidate for the Ogun Central senatorial seat in the upcoming election.
