Former Ekiti Senator Ayo Arise Sues Over APC Senatorial Primary
Ayo Arise, the former senator representing Ekiti North Senatorial District, has confirmed that he instituted legal proceedings against the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the party’s senatorial primary in the district.
Arise said he moved to court immediately after the primary to comply with the timelines set out in the Electoral Act. He explained that he anticipated the outcome and was therefore not surprised by the results.
“I filed the case because I knew what was coming. This is not about me alone; it is about ensuring a system that works for everybody,” he stated.
The ex‑senator alleged that the APC disregarded its own guidelines during the primary process. He argued that the court will now decide whether the party’s released rules were obeyed, stressing that once rules are made they must be followed.
Arise claimed his name was left off the cleared list despite submitting complaints and evidence during the appeal stage, suggesting the omission was deliberate. He expressed confidence that the judiciary will restore his mandate.
“The only thing I went to court for is the primary election that I won. We conducted the election, the results were announced at the proper level, and I emerged victorious. I have faith in the judiciary and believe I will get my ticket back because I won massively,” he added.
