UEFA has unveiled the candidate venues for the 2028 and 2029 Champions League finals, confirming Munich’s Allianz Arena as the sole contender for Europe’s premier club football event in 2028.
Home to Bayern Munich, the iconic stadium last hosted the final in 2012. Its selection marks a return to the global spotlight after 16 years.
2029 Final: Camp Nou vs Wembley
For the 2029 Champions League final, Barcelona’s renovated Camp Nou faces competition from London’s Wembley Stadium. Barcelona aims to celebrate the stadium’s reopening with a major European final. Wembley remains a formidable contender, leveraging its modern facilities and rich history of hosting elite events.
Europa and Conference League Hosts
UEFA also announced candidates for the Europa League finals. Four cities contend for 2028: Lyon (France), Torino (Italy), Bucharest (Romania), and Belgrade (Serbia). For 2029, Ankara (Turkey) replaces Belgrade among the contenders.
The Europa Conference League shortlist for 2028 includes Lille (France), Budapest (Hungary), Torino (Italy), Gdańsk (Poland), Astana (Kazakhstan), and Almaty (Kazakhstan). Helsinki (Finland) joins these cities in the 2029 candidate lineup.
Final decisions will follow UEFA’s evaluation of each venue’s facilities, infrastructure, and event-hosting capabilities. Official host city announcements are expected in early 2026.
