Abure Clarifies Campaign Funds: Aisha Yesufu Managed Peter Obi’s Separate Account
Former Labour Party National Chairman Julius Abure has pushed back against claims of financial misconduct surrounding the party’s 2023 presidential campaign.
Abure stated that all campaign donations were never deposited into the Labour Party’s official accounts. Instead, Peter Obi requested a distinct account specifically for his campaign finances.
According to Abure, activist Aisha Yesufu was appointed as a signatory to that separate account, alongside another individual, Ighodalo. Both have since acknowledged that no money flowed into the party’s coffers.
He emphasized that the leadership’s priority was winning the election, not handling money, which is why the funds were channelled through the account overseen by Yesufu and Ighodalo.
Abure Criticises INEC Over Recognition of Rival Faction
Abure also took issue with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for listing a group led by Senator Nenadi Usman on its website, alleging that Usman and her supporters unlawfully seized control of the party’s office.
He described Usman as an “interloper” and reiterated his earlier accusations that Peter Obi and Alex Otti helped spark the leadership crisis by backing a caretaker committee inaugurated in Umuahia.
The former chairman argued that the move disrupted a previously stable administration and laid the groundwork for the ongoing internal conflict within the Labour Party.
