PDP Faction Calls for IGP Probe into Supposed Fake Letter to INEC
Ogbeide Associates, solicitors acting for a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have petitioned Inspector‑General of Police Tunji Disu to investigate party secretary Samuel Anyanwu and factional national chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed.
The petition follows a letter dated 3 November 2025 that was addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The letter falsely claimed that the PDP National Working Committee had suspended acting national chairman Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum and appointed Mohammed in his place.
According to the petitioners, the NWC’s 608th emergency meeting on 1 November 2025 resolved to suspend Anyanwu and three other officers over alleged anti‑party activities.
They stated that no NWC resolution, minutes or attendance record has been produced to show that Damagum was ever suspended or that Mohammed was appointed.
Counsel cited a Federal High Court judgment delivered on 10 October 2024 that recognised Damagum as acting national chairman and restrained INEC from acting on any document lacking his signature.
The Court of Appeal, on 9 March 2026, affirmed the NWC’s suspension of Anyanwu.
The petitioners also asked the IGP to examine how INEC processed the 3 November letter despite allegedly being aware of the court judgment and the NWC’s suspension resolution.
“This petition is not about personalities. It is about whether public institutions can be misled with documents that do not reflect the true position of internal party processes, and whether such conduct will be investigated as the law requires,” counsel for the petitioner said.
The lawyers urged the police to treat the matter with urgency, adding that they are ready to provide court judgments and internal party records to support the investigation.
