Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Calls for Release of Arrested PDP Members in Ekiti
The senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has denounced the alleged arrest of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in Ekiti State by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The PDP had previously accused the APC of using “Form K” to intimidate and detain its members, aiming to weaken their electoral prospects.
Reacting to the reports, Akpoti-Uduaghan warned that a political climate built on intimidation and bitterness undermines democracy.
She emphasized that parties and candidates should compete on the strength of their manifestos and ideas, not through coercion.
“I would just call on the government to please release those people arrested under our party. I do not believe politics should be practised on the grounds of bitterness.

She added, “I believe politics should allow candidates to campaign on well‑written manifestos, letting the public connect with their ideals and philosophies. That is how politics ought to be practiced.”
Expressing confidence in the upcoming electoral process, she said, “I trust that the elections scheduled for 20 June 2026 will be fair and credible.”
Addressing concerns that Nigeria might be sliding toward a one‑party state due to rising defections to the ruling APC, the senator dismissed such fears, asserting that the nation’s democratic system remains vibrant and competitive.
Akpoti-Uduaghan urged Nigerians not to entertain notions of a single‑party dominance, noting that democracy thrives on competition and that other parties must continue to organise and strengthen themselves.
While acknowledging that Nigerian politics can be intense and fiercely contested, she stressed that the pursuit of political power must never come at the expense of democratic principles and citizens’ rights.
