Portable Opens Up About His School Struggles
Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, recently spoke candidly about the challenges he faced while growing up.
Childhood Hustle: Selling Pure Water to Pay Fees
He revealed that, without any sponsor, he hawked sachet water to cover his school expenses. The artist described those days as a constant battle to stay in class while trying to earn a living.
Why He Left School Early
Portable explained that he could not finish his formal education because he had to fend for himself. “I no finish school; the time wey I dey go school, I sell pure water, I no see anybody to sponsor me,” he said.
Family Dynamics and the “Olodo” Label
He added that while his father paid for the schooling of his brothers and sisters, he was left to cater for himself and was often labelled the “olodo” of the family. Despite that, he now supports all of them financially.
Hope to Return to Kwara Polytechnic
Remaining optimistic, Portable declared, “I will still finish school, I be student of Kwara Poly.” He expressed his intention to go back and complete his studies at Kwara Polytechnic.
