Peter Obi Urges President Tinubu to Step Aside for 2027
The 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to go home and rest, stating that the current administration’s record offers nothing worth renewing.
Obi argued that Tinubu’s leadership has plunged millions of Nigerians deeper into poverty while insecurity has worsened across the nation.
He questioned the rationale behind Tinubu’s bid for a second term, emphasizing that “failure cannot be renewed.”
The former Anambra State governor clarified that he is not desperate for power; his goal is simply to see Nigeria function effectively.
He noted that many Nigerians who were thriving in business when Tinubu took office in 2023 have now been reduced to selling kuli‑kuli, a stark illustration of economic decline.
“When Tinubu came into power, 87 million Nigerians were in poverty; today that figure has risen to 140 million,” Obi said. “Insecurity has gotten worse. Which hope are they going to renew again? You can’t renew failure.”
He added, “There’s a way you will fail in school, they will ask you to leave the school,” reinforcing his view that a failing government should not be given another chance.
