PDP Wins Polling Unit 009 in Ikere LGA
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured an early victory in the Ekiti State governorship election, winning Polling Unit 009 in Atiba/Aafin Ward 01, Ikere Local Government Area.
According to the results announced at the unit, PDP garnered 82 votes, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) which polled 56 votes.
The Young Progressives Party (YPP) received two votes, while the Labour Party (LP) and the African Action Congress (AAC) each obtained one vote.
Invalid votes totalled 20, bringing the total number of votes cast to 162.
BVAS Malfunctions Cause Delays
Meanwhile, a party agent identified as Oluyede criticised the performance of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) at his polling unit, saying the device delayed accreditation and voting.
Oluyede lamented that the BVAS was malfunctioning, resulting in a slow accreditation process, with only six voters accredited since voting commenced at 8:30 am.
INEC officials were observed attempting to rectify the fault and ensure the device functioned effectively. Reacting to the development, Oluyede described the process as unacceptable.
“The electoral process is nonsense. A lot of my people are yet to vote because the BVAS is not functioning properly,” he said. “I am not happy with the current electoral process; this is not the first time that the machine has been faulty at my polling unit. I will make adequate reports of these irregularities to the appropriate authority.”
