The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is the sole political force challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria.
Speaking at an event where President Bola Tinubu was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Wike congratulated the APC on its victories in Saturday’s by‑elections and praised the PDP for retaining its position as the country’s leading opposition party.
According to Wike, opposition is not merely about rhetoric; it requires actively challenging the government. He emphasized that the PDP is the only party fulfilling that role.
He said, “Let me use this opportunity, Mr. President, to congratulate your party (APC) for winning Saturday’s by‑election and also congratulate my party (PDP) for maintaining the opposition.
“In every political setting there must be winners and there must be opposition. Today we have seen the ruling party and the opposition party.
“Opposition is not about talking; it is about challenging the ruling party, and we are the only party doing that, which makes us the leading opposition party.”
