The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected allegations from the Ladi Adebutu Democratic Organisation (LADO) that Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, is not an indigene of the state.
Party Labels Claim Reckless and Unconstitutional
In a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s publicity secretary, Nuberu Olufemi, the APC described the allegation as reckless, mischievous and contrary to both factual evidence and the Nigerian constitution.
Yayi’s Roots and Legislative Record
The statement highlighted that Yayi’s maternal lineage traces back to Abeokuta while his paternal roots lie in Yewaland, and that he currently represents Ogun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
Constitutional Argument
According to the APC, labelling him a stranger contradicts constitutional provisions on citizenship and eligibility to run for office.
PDP Accused of Propaganda
The party accused the PDP and its affiliates of using the allegation as a desperate propaganda tactic to divert attention from their own internal turmoil.
Deepening PDP Crisis in Ogun
It pointed out that the PDP in Ogun State is experiencing a deepening crisis, prompting several prominent members—including former state chairman Sikirulai Ogundele and members of the PDP caucus in the State House of Assembly—to defect to the APC.
Characterisation of the PDP
The APC characterised the PDP as a sinking, crisis‑ridden organisation whose members are losing faith in its leadership.
Adebutu’s Legal Troubles
The statement also reminded Nigerians that the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate, Ladi Adebutu, is facing a federal court case linked to alleged vote‑buying and money‑laundering during the 2023 Ogun State governorship election.
Yayi Remains the Formidable Contender for 2027
It concluded that Senator Yayi remains the formidable challenger to beat in the 2027 gubernatorial race, citing his economic blueprint, grassroots outreach and numerous constituency projects.
