Popular Nigerian artist Tiwa Savage has encountered online criticism after her remarks concerning the recent school kidnapping in Oyo State.
She posted a video expressing worry about the troubling incident, which allegedly involved the forcible seizure of pupils.
During the attack, a teacher died, and footage from the scene spread across the internet, provoking strong reactions.
“I Learned About the Incident Late,” Tiwa Savage Explains
In the clip, Tiwa Savage noted that she only became aware of the abduction after viewing a post by fellow musician Spyro.
She expressed surprise that the case was not gaining sufficient online traction given its gravity.
Later, while seeking more details, she encountered a message from media figure KieKie, who indicated that the kidnapping had taken place nearly two weeks prior.
The abduction that occurred in Oyo State was just brought to my attention yesterday when Spyro discussed it. I attempted to contact individuals to understand the background because it was not trending. I saw KieKie’s post, and she mentioned it happened almost two weeks ago,” she stated.
Her response, however, quickly generated varied reactions on the X platform (formerly Twitter).
Fans Criticize Tiwa Savage’s Comment
Numerous users accused Tiwa Savage of addressing the matter too late.
Some claimed she neglects pressing national concerns.
Others labeled her “pro‑Tinubu,” suggesting that certain celebrities only speak out when public pressure mounts.
A handful mocked her emotional delivery in the video, joking that she deserved film awards for her performance.
