NDC Leader Denounces Deregistration Ruling as Frivolous
The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has described every action leading to the party’s deregistration ruling as frivolous and embarrassing. Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics,” Dickson argued that the ruling is merely a pretext used by opponents to truncate, destabilise, weaken, and scatter the political opposition.
Dickson emphasised that the court’s decision does not contain any mandatory instruction for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the NDC. He stated unequivocally:
“Every action behind the deregistration ruling is frivolous and embarrassing. Right now, the NDC remains a registered political party.”
He added that those pushing the ruling are merely searching for flimsy excuses to undermine the opposition’s strength.
Unity Meeting Ahead of 2027 Elections
In a related development, the NDC’s 2027 vice‑presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, confirmed that he met with Dickson at the latter’s Abuja residence on Sunday. Kwankwaso said the meeting forms part of ongoing efforts to bolster the party’s unity, resilience, and strategic readiness for the forthcoming general elections.
Commenting on the recent court order, Kwankwaso described the ruling as a temporary setback that will not be allowed to weaken the spirit of the party or its supporters. He urged party members and supporters to rise above the current challenges and remain steadfast.
“The ruling is a temporary setback and won’t be allowed to weaken the spirit of the party and its supporters.”
Both leaders expressed confidence that the NDC will emerge stronger and more focused as it prepares for the 2027 political landscape.
