Senator Mohammed Onawo Quits African Democratic Congress
The senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District, Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, has formally resigned his membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). In a resignation letter dated July 2, 2026, addressed to the ADC chairman in Galadimawa Ward, Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, he stated that his resignation took effect from June 15, 2026.
In the letter, Senator Onawo explained that his decision followed careful reflection and extensive consultations with his constituents, political associates, and other critical stakeholders. He said the prevailing circumstances within the party’s structure and the ongoing legal battles it faces no longer provide the cohesion, support, or enabling environment needed for him to focus on effective representation.
He expressed gratitude to party members and supporters for their cooperation during his tenure with the ADC.
“I am grateful for the trust and cooperation I received from my supporters and well-wishers through this journey,” he remarked, adding, “Please accept my appreciation and best wishes for the continued progress and success of the party.”
The senator did not disclose his next political destination. His resignation comes approximately five months after he exited the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in January 2026, citing personal reasons at that time.
In March 2026, Onawo joined the ADC alongside eight other senators, including Aminu Tambuwal, Enyinnaya Abaribe, Victor Umeh, Tony Nwoye, Binos Yaroe, Lawal Usman, Ireti Kingibe, and Austin Akobundu.
