Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta explained how he found out the Gunners had clinched the Premier League title, describing an emotional scene with his family after choosing not to watch the decisive match.
Arteta said he could not bear to sit through Bournemouth’s 1‑1 draw with Manchester City, the result that secured Arsenal’s first league crown in 22 years, and instead left the training ground before kickoff.
While the squad gathered to watch the game together, he went home, lit a fire in the garden and had a barbecue, deliberately avoiding the broadcast.
He recalled hearing noises from inside the house when his eldest son burst onto the patio, tears streaming, shouting “We are champions, daddy!” before the rest of the family joined him in celebration.
Arteta added that he later called Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola to thank him, noting their shared Basque roots and youth‑team history at Antiguoko, and praised Iraola’s role in the title race despite their earlier defeat.
With the league trophy in hand, Arsenal now turn their sights to a possible double, facing Paris Saint‑Germain in the Champions League final in Budapest on 30 May, and Arteta said the team will use the short celebration window to prepare for the historic showdown.
