Manchester City to Honour Pep Guardiola with Statue and Renamed Stand
The club confirmed that the newly expanded North Stand at the Etihad Stadium will be officially named ‘The Pep Guardiola Stand’.
Statue to Be Unveiled Outside the Stand
A statue of Guardiola will be erected outside the stand, located at the end of Joe Mercer Way, forming part of the club’s wider Etihad redevelopment project.
Etihad Redevelopment Details
The development includes a new fan zone called Medlock Square, a 401‑room hotel, club museum, retail outlets, office space, restaurants and bars.
Statements from Club Leadership
Owner Sheikh Mansour praised Guardiola’s impact over ten years, saying he has made an indelible imprint on the club’s DNA and expressed the family’s unending gratitude.
Club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak described the tribute as a permanent reminder of Guardiola’s influence on the club, Manchester and English football, highlighting the unique relationship he built with fans.
Chief executive officer Ferran Soriano noted that Sunday’s final game against Aston Villa will be the first occasion the new stand hosts over 7,000 additional supporters, allowing everyone to celebrate Guardiola’s achievements one last time.
Capacity Increase and Opening Game
The North Stand expansion, which began in late 2023, adds more than 7,000 seats, raising the Etihad Stadium’s capacity to over 61,000. The stand will open for the first time during Guardiola’s final match in charge.
