IPOB Accuses Uwazuruike of Selling Biafra for Government Favours
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a strong rebuke against Ralph Uwazuruike, the former leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign People of Biafra (MASSOB), accusing him of betraying the Biafra struggle.
The statement came after Uwazuruike urged the Ohanaeze Ndigbo leadership to warn Nnamdi Kanu to stop recruiting Igbo youths into violence. IPOB described his appeal as a blatant “notice me” publicity stunt, saying he is merely trying to regain relevance by latching onto Kanu’s name.
The recent statement by Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, where he begs Ohanaeze Ndigbo to go to Sokoto Prison and warn Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to stop ‘recruiting Igbo youths for violence,’ is nothing but cheap ‘notice me’ propaganda. Anybody with fading relevance and seeking limelight always latch negatively onto the Kanu name to attract favours from anti‑Biafra politicians. It is meant to cover up the killings of our people and help the Nigerian government. We must destroy this nonsense with the truth.
Ralph Uwazuruike sold out the Biafra struggle a long time ago. He traded his conscience, dignity, and the name of Biafra for money and favour from the Federal Government. Today, he is more like a businessman who builds houses and hotels. He worries about the price of cement more than the cost of freedom. A man like this has no right to talk about sacrifice or leadership.
IPOB insisted that Kanu is not responsible for the violence reported in the South‑East. The group argued that those who have betrayed their own people for trivial gains cannot deter Kanu’s determination to achieve a sovereign Biafra state.
The statement further clarified that the Eastern Security Network (ESN) was formed as a defensive response to Fulani bandits who have been killing Igbo citizens, destroying farms, and seizing land while security agencies stood by or even collaborated. ESN’s message, according to IPOB, is simply “No more” – an act of protection, not aggression.
IPOB added that videos of youths in the bush pledging to resist are not evidence of Kanu inciting violence from prison; they reflect the frustration of young people tired of seeing their brothers killed without cause. Kanu’s recent leadership reforms and the 100‑man divine project aim to cleanse the movement of traitors and strengthen it for the final victory, focusing on legal organisation rather than armed struggle.
The group also criticised Uwazuruike’s comparison of alleged “repentant IPOB members” seeking amnesty to Boko Haram, calling the analogy insulting. IPOB stressed that its members are demanding a peaceful referendum or defending their land, not engaging in terrorism.
In closing, IPOB praised Kanu’s steadfastness, noting that despite imprisonment and torture he has refused to compromise his principles. The group likened him to a spiritual leader sent to free his people, warning that saboteurs like Uwazuruike will ultimately fail, just as those who opposed Moses and Joshua did.
“Shame on all the saboteurs and noise makers who have sold their own people for a pot of porridge. Your time is over. The Lion of Biafra is roaring from prison, and nothing can stop the coming of Biafra,” the statement concluded.
