Woman Recounts Terrifying Traffic Light Encounter in Abuja

A Nigerian woman took to social media to describe a frightening experience she endured with a young boy at a traffic signal in Wuse, Abuja, leaving her visibly shaken.
In a widely shared video on X (formerly Twitter), she said she had just left the gym and was halted at the light when a young Almajiri boy approached her vehicle, a common sight in the locality.
She stated that the boy acted aggressively, pounding on her window so hard she feared the glass might shatter.
Quoting her: “This youngster, one of those Almajiri boys, appears to be about seven to nine years old. He came to my window and knocked vigorously; I could literally sense the glass about to break.”
She explained that after she lowered the window to try to calm him, the situation worsened.
According to her, the boy refused to let her raise the window and demanded money. Shortly after, she claimed he tried to seize her gold necklace while she remained inside the car.
She recalled: “When the light turned green, I felt a sudden impact on my chest, like a slap. The boy attempted to grab my gold chain, he cut it and fled.”
The woman expressed her shock, noting the boy seemed no older than seven, and described the episode as deeply traumatic.
The incident has ignited online debate regarding street begging, child safety, and increasing insecurity in major Nigerian cities such as Abuja.
