Atiku Abubakar Welcomes Appeal Court Stay on ADC Deregistration, Urges Judicial Integrity
Atiku Abubakar, the 2027 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), welcomed the Court of Appeal’s decision to stay the execution of the Federal High Court judgment that sought to deregister his party and four other political organisations.
He highlighted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) itself initiated the application for the stay, describing this move as a significant development in the legal battle.
Reacting to the ruling, Atiku warned that any attempt to undermine Nigeria’s hard‑won democracy through judicial manipulation represents a grave danger to the Republic.
He urged the judiciary to uphold the rule of law and the constitution at all times, noting that the courts are currently under intense public scrutiny.
Quoting ADC National Chairman Senator David Mark, Atiku said the judiciary itself is now on trial.
He concluded that if democracy suffers further injury, history will demand accountability from those entrusted with dispensing justice, and called on the judiciary to redeem itself by standing firmly on the side of the Constitution, the rule of law, and the Nigerian people.
