Governor Biodun Oyebanji Wins Second Term in Ekiti
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of the Saturday governorship election, securing a second term in office.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Oyebanji polled 319,224 votes, far ahead of his closest rival, Oluwole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 40,533 votes. Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) placed third with 2,872 votes.
The victory makes Oyebanji the first Ekiti governor to win consecutive re‑election since the return of democratic rule in 1999. Former governor Kayode Fayemi also served two non‑consecutive terms, but Oyebanji’s win is uninterrupted.
Thirteen other parties fielded candidates, including the Labour Party, Accord Party, New Nigeria Peoples Party, Action Democratic Party, Action Alliance, Allied Peoples Movement, African Action Congress, Peoples Redemption Party, Young Progressives Party, Zenith Labour Party and Action Peoples Party, underscoring the state’s competitive political landscape.
