A Fulani individual has ignited online discussion by challenging the widespread belief that Fulani herders are responsible for security challenges in certain regions.
In the widely shared clip, he emphasized that genuine Fulani herders refrain from carrying assault rifles while tending livestock, relying instead on simple implements essential for farming and survival.
Authentic Fulani Herders Reject the Notion of Carrying AK-47s in the Bush
He argued that attributing guns to Fulani herders is inaccurate and unjustly stigmatizes the community.
He pointed out that customary herders rely solely on basic tools for their everyday work.
He stated, “You will never encounter a true Fulani man wielding an AK-47 in the bush; the only tools he carries are a stick and a cutlass.”
He noted that the cutlass serves primarily for clearing brush and shielding livestock from predators.
He added, “We use the cutlass to fell trees and protect our cattle, knowing that wild animals pose a threat; without it, safeguarding the herd would be impossible.”
Possessing an AK-47 Disqualifies One From Being Considered a Fulani Herder
He further asserted that anyone spotted with an assault rifle in the wilderness cannot be regarded as a legitimate Fulani herder.
He declared, “If you see someone with an AK-47 in the bush, they are not a Fulani; label them a terrorist, not a herder.”
