Enugu Rangers Shift CAF Champions League Home Matches to Ogun State’s Remo Stars Stadium
Nigeria Premier Football League champions Rangers International have agreed to play their CAF Champions League preliminary round home fixtures at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State. The decision comes as their usual venue, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, popularly known as The Cathedral, undergoes renovation.
According to MikeThePundit, Rangers have chosen the 5,000-seat Remo Stars Stadium after confirming it meets CAF’s standards for continental competition. The stadium has previously hosted international matches and will serve as Rangers’ temporary base until work on the Enugu facility is completed.
Rangers are set to open their CAF Champions League campaign on September 4 in Ikenne, aiming to improve on last season’s 3‑2 aggregate loss to Angola’s Sagrada Esperança in the second preliminary round. Alongside NPFL runners‑up Rivers United, they represent Nigeria in this season’s competition and must navigate the preliminary rounds to reach the lucrative 16‑team group stage.
Meanwhile, there are growing calls for the Confederation of African Football to expand the Champions League, which could increase qualification spots for NPFL clubs.
