Ebonyi Gov Nwifuru Denies Threatening FCT Minister Wike
The Ebonyi State Government has dismissed claims that Governor Francis Nwifuru threatened the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, during a political rally in Abakaliki.
The administration said the allegation arose from a twisted interpretation of the governor’s remarks made at the endorsement rally for President Bola Tinubu and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on behalf of the government, Commissioner Omebeh stated that at no point did the governor issue any threat against Wike.
He explained that Nwifuru’s speech only cautioned opposition elements allegedly spreading fake news and propaganda in the state.
The word “consume,” which sparked controversy, was used metaphorically to warn those whose actions could provoke crisis that they would face the full force of the law if they did not change their conduct.
Omebeh emphasized that the governor and the FCT minister continue to enjoy mutual respect and cordial relations, and that attempts to fabricate a rift between them are politically motivated.
The commissioner accused the two PDP factions of seeking cheap political gains instead of addressing their internal crises, which he claimed have rendered the party almost non‑existent in Ebonyi State.
He urged the opposition to focus on resolving its own disputes rather than commenting on the performance of the Nwifuru administration.
The Ebonyi State Government affirmed that residents remain solidly behind Nwifuru’s leadership and will demonstrate that support at the polls in 2027.
It warned that any attempt to create a false misunderstanding between the governor and the FCT minister would fail, adding that opposition elements spreading fake news should be prepared to face legal consequences.
