A driver has become an online sensation after revealing a troubling experience that made him reconsider giving strangers lifts during heavy rain in Enugu State.
He shared the story on social media, saying it took place in 2023 while he was traveling along Zik Avenue amid a torrential downpour.
He spotted a woman soaked by the rain and chose to give her a ride to the China Town bus stop, a well‑known location in Enugu.
Passenger Demands Payment After Free Ride
Recalling the episode, he said the only exchange during the trip was his question about her destination.
He recalled, “I picked up this lady who was drenched in the rain heading to China Town bus stop from Zik Avenue. The only thing I asked her was, ‘Nne, kedu ebe ina aga?’ which means ‘Where are you going?’”
After reaching the stop and anticipating her exit, the woman insisted on ₦5,000, claiming he had “used her.”
She warned, “If you don’t pay me, I will shout and tell everyone I booked you as an ashawo and you refused to pay,” he added.

Online Reaction to the Incident
The motorist said he eventually handed over ₦3,000 after locating the cash in his car, noting that the ordeal left him deeply shaken.
Similar tales of false accusations and reluctance to assist strangers have appeared frequently online, particularly among drivers in Nigeria’s major cities.
