APC Claims Opposition Unprepared as INEC Extends 2027 Candidate Deadline
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) extended the candidate submission deadline for the 2027 general election because opposition parties could not meet the original July 11 deadline.
In a statement released on Sunday by National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, the APC said the extension confirms that opposition groups are not ready for the upcoming polls.
The party highlighted that, despite fielding a large number of candidates, it successfully uploaded all required information before the initial deadline.
INEC explained that the extension followed a request from the Inter‑Party Advisory Council (IPAC) on behalf of parties that struggled to complete the upload within the timeframe.
While acknowledging that INEC acted within its constitutional authority, the APC argued that the move reveals the opposition’s inherent weakness and inability to manage internal processes on time.
The statement quoted the APC as saying it proudly met INEC’s deadline for submitting names of its presidential, vice‑presidential, senatorial and House of Representatives candidates, even with a larger pool of aspirants.
The party noted that the opposition’s request for an extension, after failing to meet the July 11 deadline, is ironic given their repeated accusations that the APC manipulates INEC’s decisions.
The APC added that its timely submission demonstrates superior organisational capacity, discipline and readiness for the 2027 election.
Concluding, the APC urged its leaders, members and supporters to focus on strengthening structures, promoting the Renewed Hope Agenda, increasing grassroots mobilisation and preparing for an issue‑based campaign to secure a renewed mandate.
