A Nigerian man has ignited online discussion after accusing the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, of calling off a purported peaceful protest.
Alleged Protest Plans Announced
He stated that church members had been instructed to observe a three‑day fast beginning on Friday, followed by a peaceful walk with placards to highlight the growing insecurity across the nation.
Sudden Cancellation Claimed
In a widely shared video, he explained: “Last week Sunday we were told we would undertake a three‑day fast that started on Friday. On Sunday there would be no services in any RCCG congregation because we were to go out for a peaceful walk protest.”
He further claimed that after arriving at the church ready for the march, attendees were abruptly informed that a new directive had been received and the protest would not proceed.
Accusations of Political Influence
Speaking emotionally in Yoruba, he blamed church leaders for staying silent amid rising insecurity, suggesting political pressure influenced the cancellation.
He said, “Just because the wife of the president of this country, Oluremi Tinubu, who is a pastor in Redeem, gave the order, and you people cancelled the protest.”
He added, “Daddy, may God judge you. We’re no longer safe in this country, we’re finished. The church is ruined. Redeem members were told to hold the protest, but you, Daddy Enoch Adeboye, stopped that protest.”
Public Reaction and Ongoing Debate
The footage has drawn mixed reactions online; some Nigerians echo his frustration over insecurity, while others defend the church leadership.
The incident continues to fuel conversations about the responsibility of religious institutions and influential figures to speak out against national hardship and insecurity.
