Agbedi Rebukes Tinubu Over Oyo Abduction Response
The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Frederick Agbedi, has denounced President Bola Tinubu for failing to visit Ibadan after the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.
Speaking on a current affairs programme, Agbedi said the president’s inability to address the nation’s security challenges warrants his resignation.
Contrast With Jos Visit Highlighted
Agbedi pointed out that Tinubu travelled to Jos to sympathise with Plateau State victims of an insecurity attack, yet left after only ten minutes citing poor airport lighting.
He questioned why the president could not make a similar trip to Ibadan, noting that Tinubu remained in Lagos and merely dispatched his National Security Adviser and other officials.
Scale of the Abduction and Government Reaction
More than 40 students and teachers were seized in Oyo State last month, triggering nationwide outrage and protests.
In response, Tinubu sent a high‑powered delegation led by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu to the South‑West state.
The president pledged to secure the release of the abductees and declared that terrorism has no place in Nigeria, yet over a month later the victims remain in captivity.
