Senator Dino Melaye Warns Tinubu May Rig 2027 Election, Risks National Unrest
Former federal lawmaker Senator Dino Melaye expressed concern that President Bola Tinubu might steer Nigeria toward conflict if the 2027 presidential election is manipulated in his favour.
The ex‑Kogi West senator warned that the opposition would not stay silent if the people’s will was overturned.
Melaye alleged that Tinubu would attempt to rig the 2027 vote, cautioning that such action could provoke serious repercussions for the nation.
He said, “My fear is very simple: that Tinubu may lead this country to a war path because he will try to rig, but there will be vehement resistance. At the end of the day, we may have a president who will run away because we are not backing down.”
The former legislator emphasized that the opposition remains committed to standing with Nigerians and speaking out against what he described as oppression by those in power.
Melaye accused the political elite of suppressing the majority of Nigerians, noting that those in authority represent less than one percent of the population.
He added that citizens would resist any effort to impose leadership through electoral manipulation.
Melaye concluded, “We are with the people, and we will speak as a people. Those in power in this country are less than one per cent of the population. It is an absurdity that one per cent is oppressing 99 per cent. We will prove that what happened in Indonesia can happen in Nigeria.”
