Oshiomhole Defends Tinubu, Asserts President Possesses Abundant Political Will for National Security
Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has neglected national security, arguing that the country’s rising insecurity is not due to a lack of political will.
He asked, “What is the difficult thing in political will? The commander‑in‑chief gives the order: Go and ensure that the country is safe. As President Bola Tinubu has done repeatedly.”
Oshiomhole said he is putting his mouth where he is putting resources, noting that Tinubu has approved additional funding, even a supplementary budget cleared by the National Assembly, and asked what more political will could be required.
The senator added that the President declared a state of emergency and replaced former service chiefs as part of efforts to strengthen national security.
He stressed that the Commander‑in‑Chief has political will “in abundance,” pointing to the emergency declaration, the directive to the armed forces that there is no excuse for failure, and the replacement of former security chiefs — a move he described as difficult but necessary.
Oshiomhole urged Nigerians, irrespective of party affiliation, to unite on security matters, stating that when it comes to safety there is one Nigeria, no APC, no PDP, or any other division.
He said he is unaware of anyone being questioned for apprehending a dangerous criminal, reinforcing his view that the President possesses ample political will.
Concerns About Implementation at the Frontline
Nevertheless, Oshiomhole raised concerns about whether orders from the top are effectively carried out on the battlefield, questioning the gap between commander and troops in the field.
He wondered if soldiers share the commander’s concerns, possess the necessary morale, equipment, and allowances to execute the directives they receive.
