Former Senegal head coach Alain Giresse expressed confidence that the Teranga Lions can advance to the semi‑finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In an interview with Wiw Sport, Giresse highlighted the squad’s quality and potential, stating that an African nation reaching the final is inevitable and Senegal is well placed to at least make the last four.

He acknowledged that unexpected incidents can influence any match, but emphasized that the intrinsic talent within the Senegalese squad is strong enough to compete with the world’s elite.
