A female survivor detailed a terrifying 2006 kidnapping orchestrated by her friend’s romantic partner, hoping her story will encourage young women to heed their intuition.
She recalled the episode while considering the ongoing crisis of abductions nationwide, noting that although the ordeal spanned under three hours, its effects have endured.
How the Ordeal Unfolded
She said she encountered the man via her friend and initially saw no threat.
She described him as composed, amiable, and attentive in her friend’s presence, which gave no cause for alarm.
The dynamic shifted when he proposed driving her home; she recalled convincing her friend to join her.
“I was abducted in 2006, not by unknown assailants but by my friend’s boyfriend. I met him through that friend; he appeared courteous and composed when he was with her. My conscience gave me no warning signs. He showed excessive concern for me and offered a lift. After they departed, I recall urging my friend to come along. Upon entering the vehicle, I was struck with a slap unlike any I had experienced before. Though the incident lasted under three hours, I cannot fathom the suffering of those presently held captive. I implore every young woman: trust your instincts. If something feels off, walk away. Listen to your inner voice and refuse to become a victim.”
Advice for Young Females
She leveraged her experience to advise young women to stay alert, even when interacting with individuals presented by trusted companions.
Her narrative ignited online conversation, prompting numerous social media participants to recount comparable incidents and emphasize the necessity of personal safety vigilance.
Many expressed compassion for kidnapping survivors and commended her for publicly detailing her trauma.
As safety concerns remain a central topic in public discourse, her cautionary message has struck a chord with many Nigerians, especially young women encountering new settings and relationships.
