Rivers NDC Governorship Candidate Blessing Fubara Says He Has No Godfather, Only God Guides His Ambition
Blessing Fubara, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship aspirant for Rivers State, has dismissed allegations that his political ambition is being sponsored by any godfather. He stated that his only backing comes from God.
He also rejected the notion that his candidacy is merely an extension of his brother’s political project or that he is serving as a placeholder. “I don’t have a godfather but I have God the father,” Fubara said, adding that if his ambition were shaped by external influences, it would indicate a lack of clear vision.
Fubara emphasized that he and his brother hold different political ideologies and perspectives. He referenced the public fallout between his brother and his former party, stressing that their paths are distinct.
Describing the current climate in Rivers State as turbulent, he noted that various narratives are being pushed to sway public opinion. Despite this, he remains focused on his goal of rescuing the state through his own vision and direction.
Fubara formally entered the 2027 governorship race in May 2026 after securing the NDC’s expression of interest and nomination forms. His announcement came shortly after Governor Siminalayi Fubara withdrew from the APC primaries, a timing that sparked speculation about a familial political arrangement.
The NDC candidate firmly denied those speculations, asserting that he is contesting on his own terms and not as part of any political deal for his brother. He reiterated that his motivation stems from a desire to address the challenges facing Rivers State, not from family ties or external pressure.
