Seyi Makinde Names Preferred Successor
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has declared the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, as his preferred successor ahead of the 2027 election.
In recent weeks, speculation had grown that Makinde had settled on Adekanmbi as his chosen candidate. The rumour gained momentum on May 14, when the governor announced his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election.
At a joint mega rally of the Peoples Democratic Party and the APM in Ibadan, Makinde and Adekanmbi appeared together alongside officials from both parties. Addressing the crowd, Makinde said his administration’s political arrangement in Oyo State would soon expand nationally.
“I am here to tell you all two things. First, I want to thank you for your support towards this administration and also for the current political arrangement in Oyo State, which will also go national very soon,” he said.
“You have tasted Omituntun 1.0 and 2.0. Is it sweet, or not? This is Omituntun 3.0.”
The governor and Adekanmbi then raised APM face caps before cheering supporters.
Makinde urged Adekanmbi to chart his own political path and avoid inheriting his personal political battles.
“I have told Bimbo, don’t inherit my enemies; chart your own path. I’m only human, and I make mistakes, just like everyone else,” Makinde said.
He also advised Adekanmbi to build on the achievements of his administration for the benefit of the people.
“He should improve on the good things we have done for the benefit of the people of Oyo State,” he added.
