Former Vice‑President Atiku Abubakar has secured a decisive lead in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary, winning 22 states and the Federal Capital Territory out of the 24 results announced.
Protests and Controversy
The outcome was announced while party officials took a break late Tuesday. Rival candidates Rotimi Amaechi and Hayatu‑Deen protested the conduct of the primary, raising questions about the exercise’s credibility and signalling potential tension within the opposition as it prepares for the 2027 general election.
Despite the protests, returning officers from across the country continued to submit results at the Abuja collation venue, with officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) present to monitor the process.
