A Nigerian man sparked online debate after sharing how a woman supposedly turned down a marriage proposal because the groom’s mother interfered during the engagement moment.
The incident, posted on X (formerly Twitter), described a planned surprise proposal following a church Bible study that went awry when the man’s mother jumped in before the woman could answer.
The narrator said the suitor had meticulously arranged the proposal, presenting a ring before fellow congregants after the gathering ended.
Everything seemed fine until he popped the question.
However, before the lady could respond, the man’s mother allegedly spoke for her, declaring the proposal accepted.
The woman reportedly exclaimed that the proposal had been accepted, prompting immediate applause from onlookers.
According to the account, the mother then took the ring and attempted to place it on the woman’s finger herself.
