Leicester City have confirmed the departure of Nigeria international Joe Aribo after his loan spell came to an end, as the relegated club embarks on a major squad clear-out following their drop to League One.
The Foxes announced the development in their retained list released on Sunday, May 24, confirming that ten senior players will leave the club this summer, while several loanees will return to their parent clubs.
Aribo Returns to Southampton After Failed Permanent Deal
Joe Aribo, who joined Leicester from Southampton F.C. on a temporary deal, is among those heading back after talks over a permanent transfer failed to make progress. The 28-year-old midfielder still has a contract with Southampton running until June 2026, but uncertainty remains over his long-term future after Leicester’s fall into the third tier.
Reports had suggested Aribo was unwilling to continue playing in League One following the club’s relegation. His return leaves Southampton with a decision on whether to reintegrate him, loan him out again, or sell him before the next season.
Leicester Confirm Major Squad Clear-Out
Leicester’s retained list also confirmed that the loan spells of Jordan James, Aaron Ramsey, Dujuan Richards and Divine Mukasa have ended, with all players returning to their parent clubs.
The list confirmed the exit of several experienced figures, including club captain Ricardo Pereira, who leaves after eight years and more than 200 appearances for the club. Striker Patson Daka, winger Jordan Ayew, defender Jamaal Lascelles and academy graduate Wanya Marçal are also set to depart.
Meanwhile, veteran goalkeeper Asmir Begović remains in discussions with the club over a possible contract extension.
Squad Rebuilding for Life in League One
Leicester also revealed that contract extension options have been activated for five academy players, while several youngsters have received new offers as part of plans to rebuild the squad ahead of life in League One. The clear-out marks the start of a difficult period for the club as they adjust to playing in England’s third tier for the first time in over a decade.
