Esteemed clergyman and founder of Word of Life Bible Church, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, has disclosed a deeply personal account of his concealed fight against cancer. He revealed how he silently endured excruciating pain, underwent extensive medical procedures overseas, and spent over $120,000 on healthcare while presenting a strong public image.
The former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria shared this testimony in a video posted on his Instagram page, reflecting on faith, resilience, and the support he received during his health ordeal.
Private Suffering and Public Composure
Pastor Oritsejafor explained that physicians initially informed him the malignancy had metastasized, offering little hope. However, subsequent diagnostic tests in the United States painted a different picture, with medical professionals describing the condition as not yet fully developed and advising a follow-up in three months.
Despite the grim initial prognosis, he returned to Nigeria and continued his pastoral duties, attending church services and even joining celebratory events while privately grappling with severe pain.
He stated that his choice to stay active was deliberate, as he aimed to serve as a source of strength for others even during his own weakest moments.
Urgent Return and Medical Breakthrough
Following a church Jubilee Celebration, the pain reportedly intensified, prompting an emergency trip back to the United States. There, additional imaging brought relief when doctors confirmed the cancer had not invaded his bones.
He recalled being reassured after a crucial scan, noting that medical staff later verified the absence of cancer in his skeletal system.
Surgery, Infection, and Financial Strain
After undergoing surgery, the cleric said he spent several months confined to a hospital bed and encountered serious complications, including a rare infection that perplexed doctors.
He mentioned that medical staff had to rely on experimental antibiotics before discovering an effective combination after multiple days.
During this period, hospital policies mandated strict isolation procedures for visitors. Nevertheless, his personal assistant, Bayo, reportedly remained by his side throughout the treatment, even disregarding medical protocols.
Pastor Oritsejafor also revealed that his total medical expenses amounted to approximately $120,000 over the course of treatment.
Unwavering Loyalty Beyond Hospital Rules
He commended his assistant for steadfast loyalty, recounting how Bayo insisted on accompanying him despite being advised not to travel.
He also shared lighter moments from his recovery, including a humorous episode where his assistant intervened in his diet after a doctor vaguely permitted him to eat anything he wanted.
A Message of Faith and Perseverance
Concluding his testimony, the clergyman urged believers to continue supporting others regardless of personal sacrifice, describing this as a fundamental aspect of spiritual responsibility.
He encouraged steadfastness in faith, even amid silence and uncertainty, stressing that challenges do not diminish God’s presence or purpose.
“Never stop being a pillar,” he said, highlighting endurance, compassion, and unwavering trust in God during hard times.
