The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has rejected allegations that electoral materials were diverted during the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in Benue State.
Akume Calls for Investigation and Accountability
The former Benue State governor said he had received numerous reports about alleged material diversion and other irregularities, warning that such actions could undermine the credibility of the party’s internal electoral process. He urged relevant security agencies and authorities to investigate the claims thoroughly and ensure that anyone found culpable faces appropriate sanctions.
Emphasis on Party Unity and Reconciliation
Akume stressed the importance of keeping the APC united, noting that the party’s founding fathers never intended to see factions develop. He appealed to aggrieved aspirants and their supporters to set aside differences arising from the primaries, insisting that reconciliation is essential for the party’s future electoral success.
Confidence in President Tinubu’s Prospects for 2027
Looking ahead, the SGF affirmed that the presidential primaries scheduled for the following day would proceed smoothly. He expressed strong confidence that President Tinubu enjoys widespread support in Benue State, citing the president’s performance, patriotism, and inclusive governance as factors that resonate with Nigerians.
Akume concluded by stating that, despite the presence of opposing voices in any democracy, the president’s work has been approved by most citizens and he expects a massive vote for Tinubu in the upcoming elections.
