The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has described his party as a credible alternative for Nigerians. He made this statement on Wednesday while hosting members of the NDC Screening Committee.
Dickson noted that the NDC has grown remarkably in a short time. He added that the party has attracted many aspirants seeking to contest the 2027 elections on its platform.
The former Governor of Bayelsa State urged the screening committee to be fair. He warned against the arbitrary disqualification of aspirants. He also stressed the need to avoid rancorous primaries.
“Today, I met with members of the NDC Screening Committee. They include party leaders, professionals, and members of the National Working Committee. Their task is to interface with aspirants seeking our party’s tickets for various elective offices,” Dickson wrote on his X handle.
He expressed delight at the NDC’s remarkable growth. He also noted the increasing confidence Nigerians have in the party. “The large number of aspirants shows that the NDC has become a credible alternative platform for democratic change and national renewal,” he added.
Dickson reminded the committee that their work is very important. He urged them to act with fairness, wisdom, and a proper understanding of local political realities. He emphasized that the committee should not see itself as a panel for arbitrary disqualification. Instead, it should engage aspirants constructively and encourage consensus when possible.
“Prepare comprehensive reports that will guide the party in its eventual selection process,” Dickson said. He reiterated that candidates flying the NDC flag in 2027 will emerge through a transparent and merit-driven process. The party will not hand out tickets arbitrarily.
“In the NDC, tickets will not be gifted arbitrarily. Our party remains committed to consultation, merit, competence, and the wishes of stakeholders and the grassroots,” he stated.
Dickson thanked all aspirants for their trust in the NDC. He assured them that they remain valued stakeholders in the movement. He also thanked the Screening Committee members for their sacrifice and experience.
Additionally, Dickson disclosed that he met with NDC stakeholders from Rivers State. They had productive engagements ahead of the election season. He reiterated the need for a transparent, inclusive, and people-oriented political culture. This, he said, will be the foundation for the party’s growth.
“The future of our party depends greatly on our ability to build a transparent, inclusive, and people-oriented political culture. With the commitment and sacrifice of our members across the country, we remain confident that the NDC will continue to grow stronger and offer Nigerians the credible leadership they desire,” Dickson concluded.
