The Kwankwasiyya Movement has rejected claims that former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso might be secretly working for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The denial came after Sanusi Bature, Director-General of Media and Publicity at the Kano State Government House, made comments on Arise TV. Bature suggested that Kwankwaso’s political moves could eventually benefit Tinubu.
Bature claimed some politicians work for Tinubu openly, while others do so behind the scenes. He said, “I believe whatever Kwankwaso is doing will favour Tinubu at the end because Kwankwaso worked for Tinubu in 2023.”
Reacting in an interview with Vanguard on Wednesday, Kwankwasiyya spokesperson Habeeb Saleh Mohammed dismissed the claim. He said the accusation aims to discredit Kwankwaso’s political influence.
“What Sanusi Bature and the state government are doing is nothing short of desperation to discredit us and create false narratives,” Mohammed stated.
Habeeb maintained that Kwankwaso is always open about his political direction. He said his principal is not involved in any secret arrangement with the ruling All Progressives Congress.
“My principal has always been very frank and clear about his goals. He does not play under-deal politics,” Habeeb added.
The Kwankwasiyya spokesman also dismissed claims of a secret alliance with the APC for the 2027 elections.
“At no point have we reached out to the APC. If they have evidence, they should bring it forward,” he said.
Habeeb said Kwankwaso’s only known political engagement with Tinubu was a public meeting about three years ago.
He accused Bature of trying to distort public perception and weaken Kwankwaso’s growing influence in the Nigerian Democratic Congress.
“These statements are meant to diminish his popularity and sow doubt. But we are used to such political games,” Habeeb said.
He further alleged that Kwankwaso’s opponents are making false claims to justify their own political decisions.
“Many things are being said and attributed to us. If they played better politics, they would not hire someone like Bature, who represents a government desperate to justify betrayal and defection,” Habeeb stated.
“Nigerians should interrogate these claims and check the facts. We have moved on. We have taken a clear political direction against the ruling party. We are optimistic this journey will help Nigeria get to the right place,” he concluded.
