Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has voluntarily opted out of the 2027 political process. This development was confirmed by Mukhtar Shagari, former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State.
Shagari made this disclosure on Thursday during an interview on Arise TV. He described Governor Fubara as a mature and well-educated leader. As such, Fubara possesses the right to decide his participation in future elections.
According to Shagari, Governor Fubara’s decision followed extensive consultations. He emphasized that this personal political choice deserves respect.
“Governor Fubara reached this decision after consultations,” Shagari quoted. “He remains committed to his political affiliation. Importantly, he has not indicated any coercion or influence behind his choice.”
Shagari clarified further. The Rivers State governor showed no hint of influence from any individual or group.
Shagari stressed that Governor Fubara, like all Nigerians, holds a democratic right. He can choose to participate in politics or abstain from the process.
“Governor Fubara is a mature and well-educated leader,” Shagari affirmed. “He possesses the right to participate in our democratic process, or to opt out.”
“He has chosen not to join the 2027 political process. This choice must be respected. Ultimately, it is a personal decision. It should be treated as such, free from undue speculation,” Shagari concluded.
