A Nigerian woman residing in the United Kingdom declared that no sum of money could persuade her to move back to Nigeria permanently, pointing to the tragic loss of her two children resulting from alleged medical negligence.
During a street interview, she explained that her departure from Nigeria was motivated not by financial considerations but by the deep trauma she experienced.
She disclosed that she suffered the death of two children in separate incidents over a span of two years, which she attributes to medical malpractice, and said these events have made the idea of returning home unthinkable.
While acknowledging that medical errors can happen anywhere, she emphasized that such incidents are far rarer in the UK, maintaining that no financial incentive would be sufficient to lure her back to Nigeria.
The interviewer asked, “Would you accept £200 to go back to Nigeria and never return to the United Kingdom?”
She replied, “Never! Ever again.”
The interviewer noted that the amount is roughly equivalent to 400 million naira.
She responded, “I don’t care about the money. You could never compensate me enough to make me return. My move abroad was not driven by wealth; I lost two children to medical negligence, one after the other, within two years. Whenever I tell doctors here in the UK what happened, they often doubt my story. Nothing anyone says could convince me to go back. I know similar mistakes occur in the UK as well, but their frequency is extremely low.”
