NDC Spokesperson Reacts to Hanga, Gaya’s Possible APC Defection
The Director of New Media and Strategic Communications for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Theo Abu Agada, has described the reported shift of Kano State senators Rufai Hanga and Kabiru Gaya to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as “extremely painful.”
Agada made the comment on his 𝕏 account on Monday, a day after President Bola Tinubu hosted the two senators at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. While no formal announcement has been made, the meeting is widely seen as a signal of their impending defection.
According to party sources, Hanga, a former senator, lost both the Kano Central Senatorial ticket and the deputy governorship slot under the NDC. He is said to be departing after allegedly failing to secure any position from the NDC’s vice‑presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Similarly, Gaya, who contested the Kano South Senatorial seat on the NDC platform, reportedly lost out after a consensus candidate emerged from Kwankwaso’s camp. Both politicians are expected to formally announce their move to the APC next week.
