Man’s Perspective on Marital Infidelity
A Nigerian man has ignited online debate after voicing his stance on marital infidelity, stating that he would terminate his marriage instantly if his wife were unfaithful, yet he would anticipate pardon if he himself were the one who strayed.
In a clip circulating on X (formerly Twitter), he asserted that a wife’s cheating is an absolute deal‑breaker for him, leaving no space for discussion or reconciliation should it occur.
He added that, should he be the one to cheat, he would seek forgiveness, confident that his wife’s compassionate nature would lead her to pardon him.
He said, “For me, if my wife is unfaithful, the relationship ends immediately; there is no room for negotiation. Conversely, if I were to cheat, I would plead for mercy, trusting that her kind heart would grant her forgiveness.”
He further noted that, in many African cultures, men are traditionally viewed as polygamous, which permits them to maintain outside relationships while still expecting their partners to stay loyal.
His comments have provoked intense discussion across social platforms, with users split over whether the viewpoint reflects a troubling double standard in partnerships.

“Different strokes for different folks. If my wife cheåts on me, that’s the end of our relationship, but if I cheåt, I will beg for forgiveness. Traditionally in Africa, men are supposed to be polygamous.”
