MLS Opens Tampering Investigation Over Inter Miami’s Casemiro Deal
Major League Soccer has announced it is reviewing a tampering complaint linked to Inter Miami’s acquisition of Brazilian midfielder Casemiro.
Inter Miami confirmed the 34‑year‑old signed a contract that runs until the end of the 2027 MLS season, with an option to extend until June 2029. Shortly after the announcement, the league said it had begun examining a complaint related to the transfer.
MLS stated it is gathering all relevant information and will refrain from further comment until the review is complete.
The investigation focuses on discovery rights, an MLS rule that gives one club the first opportunity to negotiate with a player intending to join the league. LA Galaxy originally held those rights for the former Manchester United star, but Inter Miami says it acquired them from Galaxy before finalising the move.
The league added that the specifics of the agreement between the clubs will remain undisclosed until the investigation concludes.
After sealing the deal, Casemiro said his desire to keep challenging for trophies and continuing to grow remains unchanged.
Inter Miami co‑owner David Beckham hailed the Brazilian’s arrival, describing him as a proven winner whose experience will add quality and leadership to the squad.
Casemiro now joins a team that already features Lionel Messi, Rodrigo De Paul and his former Manchester United teammate Sergio Reguilón.
This is not the first time Inter Miami has faced MLS scrutiny; the club was fined $2 million in 2021 for breaching roster and salary regulations in the signing of French midfielder Blaise Matuidi.
