Senator Kabiru Gaya Set to Rejoin APC Ahead of 2027 Elections
Former Kano State governor and senior figure in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Kabiru Gaya, is reportedly preparing to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to sources, Gaya has agreed to re‑join the APC in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
The decision followed a private meeting with APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda at Gaya’s residence on Yaounde Street, Abuja, on Monday night.
A source familiar with the discussion told Channels TV that the meeting lasted about 45 minutes and ended with Gaya confirming his intention to re‑align with the APC.
“Yes, Senator Kabiru Gaya has agreed to re‑join the APC,” the source said.
Gaya had previously defected to the NDC but lost the party’s senatorial ticket for Kano South ahead of the 2027 polls.
He served as governor of Kano State during the Third Republic (1992‑1993) and later represented Kano South Senatorial District in the Senate from 2015 to 2023 under the APC banner.
In the 2023 elections, he was defeated by Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
