Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Umar Sani has declared that the faction of the party recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is not the original PDP.
His remarks came after the Federal High Court in Abuja struck out a suit filed by the Taminu Turaki‑led faction seeking to compel INEC to recognise and publish the names of its Interim National Working Committee.
Sani’s Reaction to the Court Ruling
Sani said, “INEC‑recognised PDP is a contraption, far removed from the vision of the party’s founding fathers. It is not the original PDP, and we do not accept it.”
He added that the Party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), regarded as the conscience of the PDP, has already instituted a legal matter that will be pursued to its logical conclusion.
According to Sani, most Nigerians do not trust the INEC‑recognised PDP, but he is confident that the authentic PDP will appear on the ballot, noting that the process has already begun.
He also explained that the party is currently interpreting the judgments of the Appeal and Supreme Courts, stressing that the PDP remains the only legacy party still standing and that its members will refuse to let it die.
