Andoni Iraola Unveiled as Liverpool’s New Head Coach
Andoni Iraola, 44, was introduced as Liverpool’s new head coach after signing a two‑year contract, succeeding Arne Slot who was dismissed following a fifth‑place finish in the Premier League.
Speaking at his first press conference, Iraola stressed that reconnecting the squad with the Anfield faithful is an immediate priority, noting that football at Liverpool is fundamentally about bonding with supporters.
He recalled feeling the stadium’s energy when he watched Federico Chiesa’s winning goal against Bournemouth last season, saying he wants that atmosphere to become a regular feature created by the team’s effort on the pitch.
Iraola outlined the style he wants to implement: a hard‑working, intense, aggressive and vertical approach that fans can easily identify with and feel proud to support.
Acknowledging the criticism last season about a lack of intensity and attacking spark, he said winning back the crowd starts with performances on the field.
Despite taking on one of the biggest jobs in world football, Iraola said he feels ready, citing his previous spells at AEK Larnaca, Mirandes, Rayo Vallecano and a successful three‑year stint at Bournemouth.
He added that he will not hide away in a bubble, intending to engage with the city and its people as part of the Liverpool experience.
